Monday Mention - Betz White

Yes I know I have written about  Betz White before....

I just don't know anyone who does color any better....
She posted this little mini-collage the other day along with links to the pictures
so if you want to know more, race right over here and get the details....
The colors are so fall-ish and beautiful, I just studied the acorns for a while...and
the zipper mushroom....oh me!
An artist, designer, and green queen, Betz White has a couple books out now
and always inspires me with color....
That's why she is my Monday Mention this week...
Thanks for being an inspiration Betz!

Monday Mention...Pure Green

is a brand spanking new E-Zine published by
The premier issue is up and FREE for you to read at your leisure.  I am delighted by the
photos, articles and eye-candy that I can read and re-read all for free and at
my finger-tips on line.  The photography is beautiful and there are so many fun ideas you will hardly know which one to try first.  It is my Monday Mention for today so trot on over and read yourself silly!

Which brings me to another thing....I love being entertained by people's  blogs and things I find on the web, but sometimes I am impressed with the amount I can learn while reading them as well.
Such is the case with Pure Green Design.  Celine did a most informative article about the chemicals that are in our personal care products...you can read the entire article here, and I suggest you do so as soon as possible.  I tend to think if they put it in a jar and sell it for me to use on my face, hair or mouth, it must be safe...this is NOT always the case...Apparently chemicals that are known carcinogens or are toxic in some way are regularly used in many of the personal care products we use everyday.  I also believed that even if some of the ingredients were....questionable...they were used in such small quantities that they were harmless...according to some of the things I have since read, this might be true, but when these questionable ingredients show up in our shampoo, conditioner, deoderant, toothpaste, 6 kinds of makeup, 4 types of face cream, hairspray and on and on and on...the "small quantities" add up, and therein lies the problem.
Celine has done an excellent job on this subject and offers a link to Skin Deep, a cosmetic safety data base where you can type in the names of items you use everyday and see how they rank on the toxic scale.

She also links to the website where you can watch Annie Leonard's The Story Of Cosmetics (while you're there, watch The Story of Stuff too!) and offers you a free downloadable pocket guide of the 12 worst chemicals to avoid...
It's really been eye-opening to read up a bit on this and I urge you to check out
the above links and give some thought to what personal care products
you choose...then you can make an informed decision.

Stay tuned for more news about the new
Farm and Fru Fru Shop
Coming Soon....

HeadOn........apply directly to the forehead......

You've seen the commercial........
You've heard the mind-numbing repetition.....
"Head-On, apply directly to the forehead...." not once but repeated THREE times.
You've seen the woman rub what appears to be a glue stick on her forehead.
Well here's the rub......it works.  I kid you not, HeadOn apply directly to the forehead....
works.
Slate a Washington Post e-zine gives the hokey ad a surprising A+ declaring the very things
that drive us nuts about the ad make it "utter genius".....repetition, kitch ("mesmerizing cheesiness")
and mystery (they never really say what it's for.)
Now, I admit, I did not set out to purchase HeadOn.
I was shopping in the dollar store and had a headache.  There, on a shelf sat HeadOn.  Before I knew what
happened, it had hopped into my plastic basket along side a bag of Stouffer Iced Animal Crackers, a Sudoku puzzle book and 4 greeting cards.  I figured I had nothing to lose.
I "applied directly to my forehead" and what do you know... it worked!  While the headache didn't
really go away, the cooling effects of the topical homeopathic gel were very soothing.
I am now addicted.  I keep one in my purse, one by my bed, one in each bathroom, one by my chair and one in my workroom....I want never to be without  HeadOn again.  Kind of like Burts Bees lip balm.
The only problem is, the dollar store ran out so now my "fix" comes at a much higher price.
I don't care.  I am addicted and must have it.
I am not sure if this falls more under the "Farm" part of this blog (yes, the farmer gives me a headache sometimes) or the "Fru Fru" part....but in my continuing effort to inform, I thought I should give it a mention.
Which brings me to this....I think I will be doing a "Monday Mention" feature for a while.  And I want to know what you like.  Leave me a comment and recommend something....a food you love, a blog you read, book, movie, craft, product...anything!  Tell me why you recommend it....
Share your loves on Mondays!  I can't wait to see what you like....
